Abstract

This study analyzes the psychoanalytic process of Laura, a teenager with agoraphobia and somatic symptoms, whose life was confined to her room, immersed in movies and games as a form of isolation. Therapy incorporated rêveries and discussions about movie pictures, such as The Hunger and Surrogates, to establish an emotional connection and break the cycle of isolation. Thesemovie pictures functioned as defense mechanisms, linked to the “autistic-contiguous position” described by Thomas Ogden, a state in which an individual relies on sensory experiences and lacks clear boundaries between the self and the external world. The study highlights how movies and games served as extensions of the self, reflecting her primitive psychological organization.
