The Phenomenon of Parallel Reality and the Universe of Illusion
Abstract
Starting from the conception of an insufficient individual (EHRENBERG, 1998), the work suggeststhat indignation, resentment, envy, frustration, feelings of exclusion are strongly present in a large portion of the Brazilian population and make them susceptible to an extremist discourse and to adhere to the parallel reality in search of a vital space that, unlike the shared reality, beckons them with the fulfillment of their desires, in a homogeneous context, without edges, from which conflict, difference and frustration are absent, that is, the Universe of Illusion. It then presents the conception of Illusion in psychoanalysis based on Freud, who considers the wish fulfillment component to be central to Illusion but also discusses the conflict between the search for narcissistic plenitude and helplessness, present in Illusion, of which both neurosis and culture originate. Then it presents the position of Chasseguet-Smirgel who delved deeper into the study of the overwhelming search to achieve an ideal state of things, present in what she calls the Universe of Illusion, which nullifies differences, hides the conflict and unleashes the aggressiveness characteristic of totalitarian systems and also of extremist groups active in Brazilian society. And finally brings Winnicott’s position for whom the Space of Illusion is an intermediate territory between the internal world and the external
reality, sustained by a paradox whose value lies in being sustained as such, the locus par excellence of cultural production, an ideal far from being enjoyed in the Brazilian social political contexto where division and denialism currently predominate.
